How long have you been working in interior decorating and how did it all start?
“I’m now going into my 25th year in the design space – I started working from my kitchen table while I was living in London after completing design school, followed by several stints working for different design and architecture firms. My first job was – very fortunately – a 28,000-square-foot ranch in Colorado that kept me in work for over two years! I then hired my first worker and quickly went to working 24-7 on five huge projects.”
What’s the worst piece of decorating advice you’ve ever received?
“To match artwork to the interior of the house. Instead, take inspiration from what’s going on in the garden and translate this into the interior space.”
What’s your most favourite piece of furniture you have ever owned and why?
“There’s a settee at the end of my bed that I have had since college. It was in my first apartment and has moved and been re-covered so many times I have lost count. I think a piece like this – one that can move around with you and take on a whole new life is incredibly special. That’s why it’s so important to buy well from the start.”
