BEDROOM
once a week
• Clear the floor of stray laundry and shoes, then get to work with the vacuum cleaner.
• Wash bedlinen with a cup of antibacterial eucalyptus oil in each load, says owner Rowena Jongejan of Family Clean.
• Tidying your bedside table will restore order and a spritz of room spray will invigorate the senses. For a home-made room spray try Rowena’s recipe (page 117) using sweet cinnamon oil by Malka.
once a month
• Give surfaces a thorough wipe to bust dust on louvres, dressers, skirting boards and bedsides.
• Improve the quality of your view and natural light with a window clean. For glass louvres, try a microfibre mitt.
• Sliding-door tracks are prime grime traps. Jody
Allen of Stay At Home Mum suggests tackling them with an old toothbrush to loosen debris before vacuuming with a narrow attachment.
once a year
• Get the bed professionally cleaned and flip the mattress. It will improve its longevity and comfort.
• Founder Shana Danon of Organised Clutter advises assessing your wardrobe seasonally. “Autumn and spring are perfect times to consider donating unworn items from the year before and free up prime cupboard real estate,” she says.
• Transform your bed with new linen sheets, cushions or a soft throw. It will freshen the space and encourage you to keep it beautifully neat year-round.
