5 MINUTES WITH: DIANE BERGERON

HOME BEAUTIFUL SAT DOWN WITH US-BORN INTERIOR DESIGNER DIANE BERGERON TO TALK INSPIRATION, TRENDS AND HOW TO BRING THE ICONIC HAMPTONS LOOK TO OUR AUSTRALIAN SHORES

-

Who’s your personal style icon? “Writer Pauline de Rothschild. She was the epitome of style. Everything she did, she did her own way and with such confidence and elegance, from the way she dressed to how she decorated her home.”

What’s your all-time favourite interior trend? “I don’t like to follow trends, but my favourite interior craze from the ’60s is layering the same or multiple patterns in a room.”

What’s the most common interior style your clients ask you to create in their homes? “Often, clients will start by asking for a Hamptons-style home, as it’s become a broad term here in Australia. What they’re actually looking for is usually a mix of traditional American North East coast style. A cross between classic modern American, Hamptons, Colonial New England, Cape Cod and Nantucket-style homes.”

Any upcoming projects you’d like to share with us? “Yes, we are so excited to soon be rolling out an entire homewares collection in keeping with my Modern Classic American style.”

What inspires you? “Everything! From the colour of the ever-changing sea out my window to travel, near and far.”

Worst piece of design/style advice you’ve received? “Any set of rules.”

Top tip to nailing a Hamptons-inspired interior? “Keep it casual and, of course, use a lot of painted wood and blue.”
