HIGH STYLE
A TREE CHANGE TO THE NSW SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS GAVE WENDY AND RICHARD THE CHANCE TO BUILD THEIR ‘HAMPTONS IN THE HIGHLANDS’ VISION
For former Novacastrians Wendy and Richard, a weekend break in beautiful Bowral turned out to be life-changing. The couple spotted two acres of picturesque countryside and decided it was time for a change. Before long they had engaged professional builders Strongbuild, and laid down the plans for their forever family home. Wendy’s vision had always been Hamptons style. “Our style is part classic coastal Hamptons, part modern farmhouse, which works so well in the Highlands,” she says. With this in mind, a timber-look exterior was essential. “Timber weatherboards are such an intrinsic Hamptons-style look. We had a timber exterior on our home in Newcastle and swore we’d never go with natural timber again, because of the cost and upkeep,” explains Wendy. “Linea™ Weatherboard was the best choice to create the timberlook exterior we wanted. It also has excellent insulation, which is vital in the Highlands.” An extra benefit of Linea™ Weatherboard over timber is its BAL rating of up to BAL 40, which makes it perfect for a bush setting, giving Wendy and her family peace of mind. In fact, they found Linea™ Weatherboard so good to work with, Wendy and Richard have used it for the garage and also plan to use it on their upcoming pool house. Wendy’s vision has been realised throughout their home, with every detail carefully considered and sourced. So, what are her tips for getting the Hamptons look? “Ensure you choose the right products to bring the look to life, for example, Linea™ Weatherboards for the exterior. Choose colours from the white, blue, grey and black scales – they scream Hamptons-style farmhouse. And don’t be afraid to get creative with glass and rustic pendants for interior lighting.”
