WE REVEAL AUSTRALIA’S MUST-VISIT SHOPPING DESTINATIONS AND UNCOVER THEIR HIDDEN GEMS

- Words HOLLY BYRNE Photography ROBERT GEH

The sovereign high street of Adelaide’s leafy inner-southern suburbs, King William Road – once an iconic fashion hub – has recently evolved into a fine dining destination. But, between the remaining boutiques and award-winning restaurants, you can now find a string of stores filled with collected art, thoughtful wares and pieces to cherish.

1 | HEYDAY STORE

Not yet a year old, the Heyday Store has already amassed a strong and devoted following, something owner Karah Hogarth puts down to a tightly edited collection of wares for kids, women and the home. “We look for stock that is beautiful, ethically and sustainably produced, and made either in small batches or by hand,” she says. “We aren’t afraid to mix in vintage items with refined contemporary pieces.” Anchoring the popular store’s varied offering is a warm palette of neutral tones.

2 | OSCAR & WILLOW

For Oscar & Willow founder Kelly Tate, opening a designer furniture and homewares store (left & far left) five years ago was simply a natural progression. “My husband and I own a building company, and interior design has always been a strong interest of mine,” she explains. Contemporary, classy and carefully curated, the collection of products in-store ranges from Danish furniture to designer babywear. “I only buy products that I personally love and would have in my own home – and they have to be functional,” says Kelly, who describes her style as minimal with an organic edge.

3 | FLOWERS 152

With more than two decades of industry experience under her belt, florist Connie Rhigas noticed something was missing in the area – a market-style florist that could keep up with the buzz, especially on the weekends – and opened her shop two years ago. Her flowers, wrapped carefully in simple brown paper, speak for themselves, but you can also expect to find handmade candles, rope pot holders and ready-made terrariums. Not looking for blooms? The eclectic and vintage-inspired design of the shop itself, made up of flea market finds and garage sale gems, is well worth checking out.

The savoury treats on offer – from omelettes and breakfast burgers to battered prawns and falafel – are equally indulgent and just as photogenic as the sweets.
