Acomplete renovation was on the cards when Anne and Steve bought their home in Perth. While they loved the established gardens and location, tired 1990s finishes and fixtures inside warranted an overhaul. The couple entrusted the job to interior designer Jane Ledger, with a brief for a crisp, classic style and a new, user-friendly kitchen high on the agenda. Gutting the zone and starting from scratch, Jane abandoned the peninsula bench layout in favour of an open-plan design featuring an island with wraparound seating. A storage area that ran parallel behind the kitchen was also converted, becoming a handy, open-style pantry with bench space devoted to small appliances. Anne and Steve were eager to explore a palette of finishes that would take their kitchen beyond a ‘white box’, which meant they loved Jane’s concept of beautiful, deep blue cabinetry offset with brass accents and sophisticated Smartstone for the benchtops and the cooktop splashback. “The blue was just right,” says Anne. “It feels rich and luxurious while also being warm and homely. Along with the finishes Jane chose, it makes our new kitchen feel modern but timeless, and the true heart of our home.”
