Interior stylist Ali Waight shares her tips on melding

a Federation home with a modern extension

1. “Choose the right white,” says Ali. “Modern interiors often feature walls in a cool white, while older homes tend

to be more creamy. We struck a balance with Dulux Natural White. It’s fresh, yet still throws off warmer tones.”

2. “Add timber. With timber floors in the original home, it was important to include tactile timber elements in the new extension to visually unite the spaces, adding textural layers and interest throughout.”

3. “Restraint is important. Christine stuck to a classic black, white and grey palette, as well as crisp, clean

lines and natural materials.”
