Interior designer Alison shares her top three tips for tiling with handmade mosaics

1. “Prep, prep and prep!,” says Alison. “As mosaics are so thin (often only 6-7mm thick), it’s difficult to hide flaws as they need less glue. Much like painting, the answer is always in the prep.”

2. “Use a really good tiler. Not all tilers are created equal, and when you design elements outside the norm such as a curved bench, finding the right tiler is really important.”

3. “Get your cut right before they are laid. The old adage “Measure twice, cut once” couldn’t be truer for mosaics, particularly in a small space. Be clear on how you want the finished product to look before the tiler starts cutting.”
