When Katherine and Jack’s daughters, Ava, nine, and Ella, seven, get ready for the day ahead, they don’t linger in their parents’ ensuite – they prefer their own dreamy bathroom. Bathed in natural light, with a gorgeous textural palette, window-side bath and fun curves, it’s easy to see why. Part of a renovation of the family’s Southern Sydney home entrusted to designer Catherine Heraghty of The Stables, the brief was for a fresh Hamptons feel with a twist. “We wanted to make the most of the existing footprint and natural light to create a space for our daughters to use as they grow up,” says Katherine. “We focused on a timeless aesthetic, with quality fixtures and surfaces,” adds designer Catherine, who introduced a swathe of new finishes including handmade tiles, VJ panelling and custom arch detailing to transform the zone. The homeowners thought renovating during the Covid-19 pandemic could present logistical challenges, but the design and build team had most of the materials ready onsite before work began, with the home’s re-fit taking just four months. “We couldn’t be happier with the bathroom and the girls think it’s special,” says Katherine. “Every element is complementary.”
