Guest bathrooms are the perfect place to make a design statement and up the luxe factor, as homeowners Georgina and Charles found out. Renovating their Federation-style semi in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, the couple had two objectives for the downstairs bathroom. “The space was originally a combined laundry and bathroom, so we wanted to split it in two and create a separate bathroom primarily for guests, which was a little bit special,” explains Georgina. Architect Mark Armstrong of Arc Architects reimagined the new floor plan with a skylight to run the length of the zone, while interior designer Caitlin Parker-Brown of Parker Studio encouraged the couple to embrace bold colour. “The addition of the skylight, coupled with the high ceilings meant the space would be drenched in natural light, so it was the perfect opportunity to use a darker tile,” explains Caitlin, of the deep blue scheme. With a fondness for navy, Georgina loved the concept. “I wanted a bathroom which wasn’t boring, but wouldn’t date and the blue was just perfect, it’s not something I’ve seen before,” she enthuses. Guests also sing the praises of the space, which boasts a beautiful slab of marble and brushed-brass fixtures. “Everyone has been complimentary about the space, I think because it’s a bit unique and has wow factor,” reflects Georgina. >
