Gentle reign Understated elegance with a soft palette
LAYERED WITH CAREFULLY CURATED FURNISHINGS AND FIXTURES, THIS FAMILY BATHROOM EVOKES COMFORT AND CALM
Tile selection is often one of the first decisions when designing a bathroom, yet interior designer Lisa Burdus took a different approach when creating this belle of a bathroom on Sydney’s north shore. “The concept started with wallpaper,” she says of the flora-inspired Cole & Son ‘Florencecourt’ print, which blooms across the walls. “As the bathroom sits in a prominent position off the main hallway, rather than a typical ‘wet area’, I wanted to get the look and feel of other rooms in the house.” Part of a whole-home renovation, the bathroom replaced the original main bedroom and offered Lisa a blank canvas. As a space mainly for the homeowners’ daughter to use, as well as guests, a shower and separate bathtub were required. “A cohesive palette was also important,” says Lisa, who selected every surface and fixture to blend with the rest of the home. Wainscoting from the adjoining hallway was continued into the bathroom, as was the home’s gentle palette. “I love green, and once it is muted with grey it tends to look more earthy, almost neutral,” says Lisa of the custom vanity. An eye for detail also inspired the window dressing – a Roman blind in Nicole Fabre ‘Menton’ fabric from EC Collective, which nods to the hallway rug. For the homeowners, it’s the ideal ‘non-bathroom bathroom’. “They love it – the palette, the tapware, the functionality,” says Lisa. “It’s a comfortable room with timeless appeal.”
BESPOKE BEAUTY
The custom vanity sings against a backdrop of Cole & Son ‘Florencecourt’ wallpaper in Stone from Radford, with the timber cabinetry painted in Dulux Wolfram. The nickel handles, Perrin & Rowe undermount basin and nickel basin set are all from The English Tapware Company, and the basin punctuates a Carrara marble vanity top from Festoni. “We chose nickel as it’s a classic finish and imbues a lovely warm tone,” says Lisa. A Kaldewei ‘Saniform Plus’ bath from Just Bathroomware also features wraparound Carrara marble, with VJ boards painted in Dulux Candle Bark supplying an elegant buffer between the wallpaper and wet areas. Completing the look is a nickel bamboo-finish mirror from Bloomingdales.
