SLEEK AND MINIMAL WITH A WARM WELCOME, SYDNEY’S LITTLE NATIONAL HOTEL IS A STUDY IN TEXTURE, TONE AND STATEMENT LIGHTING

- Words LAURA BARRY

Towering above busy commuters at the Clarence Street entrance to Sydney’s Wynyard train station is the Doma Group’s latest project, Little National Hotel, created by architect Guy Lake and designer Hayden Crawford of Bates Smart. With a hint of Japanese minimalism, the hotel’s design combines lighting, materiality, textural elements and defining colours to both soften and celebrate the urban locale. “It’s a very restrained and efficient design solution, refined and understated without compromising on quality,” says Guy. “We wanted Little National Sydney to respond to its location – it needed local flavour to make it feel different from the Canberra site.”
