as love stories go, it was an inauspicious start. When interior designer Zoe Pohlmann’s fiancé, Tyson – the founder of Fin Design + Construct – was asked to assess the termite damage in an outdated townhouse, he “instantly fell in love with the home,” shares Zoe, creative director of Your Home Designs. “The stars aligned for us to purchase the property after the initial sale fell through,” she happily adds. Located steps away from the ocean in

Port Stephens, NSW, the home’s prime position made it the perfect candidate for the design duo to create their dream holiday-rental home – despite its initial shortcomings. “It was very dark, with tones of orange from the gloss flooring and dark red brickwork,” says Zoe of the lounge area (opposite). “We needed to brighten the space up. Everything was painted in Dulux White on White or whitewashed to maximise the effect of the high ceilings and natural northern light that floods into the living room,” explains the designer, who created a calming oasis with soft shades and soothing textures. Following a swift six-month reno, this once-tired townhouse has now become a laid-back getaway from bustling city life. Enter: Holiday mode.
