The best thing about heading to ‘the snow’ isn’t just the powdery slopes – it’s the après-ski that beckons. Snug surroundings and evenings spent in front of the fire with loved ones are all part of the appeal. Why not recreate that comforting chalet-style ambience in your own home this winter? Interior designer Rebecca Clark, of Rebecca Clark Design, shows you how with her apartment in a resort village in eastern Victoria, which features rustic alpine style in spades.

“Alpine style has a high level of comfort, atmosphere, elegance and warmth, using natural, tactile finishes to reflect elements of the external surroundings,” says Rebecca. “It needs to be cosy, but also have a certain lightness at the same time.” Rebecca achieved this by celebrating the home’s breathtaking views of the central ski slope and transforming the outdoor balcony into a multipurpose dining room (opposite) that could cater to large gatherings of friends and family.
