Bathrooms: Mirror image Updating your bath zone is often as easy as adding a mirror – here’s how to find the fairest one of all

THE SIMPLEST WAY TO ELEVATE YOUR BATHROOM’S STYLE? LOOK NO FURTHER THAN ONE OF THE LATEST MIRRORS

- Words ANNA McCLELLAND

Although it’s often overlooked, selecting the perfect bathroom mirror is as important as big-ticket items such as feature tiles and bath. A new mirror has the potential to instantly upgrade your space and can make as much or as little of a statement as you wish, whether you opt for a sleek recessed shaving cabinet or a stand-out arched design. “Depending on the bathroom’s aesthetic, the mirror can be the hero of the room,” says interior designer Joumana Sukari of Sukari Interior Design. The latest designs afford form and function, with high-tech features such as de-fogging, touch screens and frames as lovely as a work of art. Ready to search out your favourite? Our expert guide will lead you to the fairest of them all.

FIRST PLACE

Nothing maximises the sense of light and space in a bathroom more than a well-placed mirror. “When working with a small space, I always try to have a large mirror to create a feeling of openness,” says interior designer Kate Lawrence of Kate Lawrence Interiors. “It’s the simplest trick in the book but it works every time.” Position your mirror to reflect natural light, or bookend it with wall sconces to boost light levels and frame your reflection – the perfect set-up for makeup application. Another space-enhancing trick? “Choose tall mirrors to accentuate high ceilings,” says interior designer Kelly Donougher of 13 Interiors, who also likes to position mirrors to reflect stunning tiled feature walls.
