Ed’s letter Editor-in-chief Elle is feeling optimistic about spring

FOR THE LOVE OF LINEN

-

There’s something about spring that makes me feel optimistic.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the cosiness of winter, but with spring comes the promise of warmer weather and longer days – perfect for spending outside. This issue we’ve compiled a fabulous ‘Love your outdoors’ special featuring a range of gardens and alfresco retreats. Flip to page 145 for inspiration, expert advice and essential plants. From a poolside conservatory to a kitchen garden, you’ll find a space that speaks to you. As for outdoor dining, be sure to read our buyer’s guide to barbecues on page 130, and pick up some styling tips from our decorating story on page 37.

For me, spring also means a refresh of my interior. It’s the simple things that I find the most uplifting, like fresh flowers and a new set of bed sheets. Speaking of sheets, we’ve been working behind the scenes on something very exciting: our own Home Beautiful bedlinen and homewares line!

It’s just launched in My House and House stores around the country and I couldn’t be more thrilled. (Have a sneak peek on page 17.) The collection is timeless, but with accents that nod to current design trends. Most importantly, I wanted a beautiful edit of quality pieces that you could build on and add to, evolving your look rather than starting from scratch every season. I hope you love it as much as we do. Let me know what you think!

The homes in this issue showcase the best of indoor-outdoor living, some featuring lush, covered garden rooms, others with the most relaxing decks and entertaining areas. What these outdoor spaces all have in common is the considered approach to material and style choices, which cascade out from the interiors. That’s why they all work so well and feel just right – when an outdoor space is a true extension of the inside, it’s pure design magic… and the perfect place to embrace spring.
