THE FOUNDER AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF MCMULLIN & CO, ALICE MCMULLIN (ABOVE), SITS DOWN WITH HB TO SHARE WHY SHE BELIEVES SLOWING DOWN IS THE SECRET TO SUCCESS

You founded your design, furniture and homewares studio McMullin & Co in 2017, tell us a bit about how it came about?

Alice: “I started my career as a spatial designer and have always loved the process of understanding how people move and interact in the spaces that matter to them.”

What’s the best piece of styling/decorating advice you’ve received?

“Less is more. I’m inspired by simplicity of thought and purpose.” Your brand ethos is simple, considered and sustainable design from packaging to end product. Why was this important to you?

“I believe your home is a real reflection of your state of mind and have always supported the movement away from the mass to the individual.”

What’s your favourite design or architectural era?

“The 1960s minimalism era that remains just as relevant today as it was back then, with the likes of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich pioneering a timeless movement of simple yet considered design.”

Tell us about the inspiration for your ‘Tidal’ collection.

“Tidal represents the natural ebb and flow experienced during a change of season. Each piece symbolises an individual moment of solitude.”
