What’s your earliest memory of being a creative and a painter?

Mick: “Whilst serving some respite in Her Majesty’s Hotel when I was 18.”

What inspires you and drives your passion?

“To tell the truth about Tasmanian culture.”

Tell us a bit about your work and what you love about the process.

“I connect to each animal and area and explore the nuances by painting with natural ochres and acrylic paint.”

What has been your greatest career highlight?

“Meeting my current gallerist Euan Hills of Art Mob gallery in Battery Point in Hobart back in 2002.”

How do you get out of a creative slump?

“I connect to nature. Mother Earth pulls me out.”

When do you feel your most creative?

“When I’m not busy and taking things slowly.”

What or who are your greatest influences?

“My grandfathe­r and other key artists such as Lin Onus and Dennis Nona (both are also featured artists at Art Mob).”

Do you have a favourite piece of work and why is that piece so important or sentimenta­l to you?”

“Angel Rain Cave, created in 2015. It’s an image from a very spiritual journey I took on the Franklin River.”

How would you describe your work in three words?

“Connected with nature.”
