ENCHANTED GARDEN
A beautifully laid table beneath a majestic tree is the perfect setting for enjoying a long lunch. In this storybook-pretty tableau (opposite) from a Canberra home, cane chairs painted a custom green are set around a table cleverly positioned under the natural focal point of a mature tree. While delineating zones for outdoor entertaining is a smart move, consider showcasing one area as the mainstay of your design. “Outdoor structure, joinery and furniture can form a destination point in the garden, where people naturally congregate,” says landscape designer Anthony Wyer. Then create an ambience that invites guests to linger: offer comfy cushions, layer gorgeous linens, present bubbles in a champagne bucket and top it all off with a floral centrepiece. >
