The original weatherboard house was painted to match the garden, with the deep red hue of Porter’s Paints Red Lantern standing its ground against the abundance of plants. “The front garden has a lot of dark red foliage and flowers in it, to go with the house colour,” says Simon. “I’ve included lots of brighter apple greens and glossy dark greens to counterbalance that.”

The setting sun does nothing to lessen the appeal of Cornus sericea ‘Baileyi’, Lilium ‘Red Velvet’, Anthemis ’Susanna Mitchell’, Cotinus ‘Grace’ and Beschorneria yuccoides.
