New Release Angove Mclaren Vale Organic – Olive

-

Olive groves were first planted throughout Mclaren Vale’s rolling hills and stunning vineyards more than 100 years ago. It was inevitable in this idyllic Mediterranean climate that many would branch out and find places to grow wild and free.

At the far eastern end of the Angove family’s organically farmed and certified Warboys Vineyard, beside a winter creek, are three towering 100-plus-year-old gum trees providing shady relief on a warm summer’s day. Amongst these gums grow a number of wild olive trees, one of which would seem to be of similar age to the towering gums, providing inspiration for an organic wine crafted from 100% Mclaren Vale Shiraz.

“There is no marketing spin with this new brand; on one of the first days I visited the vineyard it was 35 degrees and we were showing some Japanese distributors and customers around. We stopped under the gums and it was a good 10 degrees cooler, we were surrounded by Wild Olive trees growing along the creek and I made a mental note that this could become a great brand for a Mclaren Vale organic wine,” states Richard Angove.

Certified organic grape growing and winemaking practices, minimal inputs and no artificial herbicides or pesticides ensure the healthiest vines. The Angove

Wild Olive Shiraz is a testament to the benefits of organic grape growing, with increased biodiversity in the vineyard contributing to the quality of fruit, and is further reinforcement to the Angove family’s commitment to sustainable viticulture.

“Putting in more than we take out means the land and all it has to offer is passed on to generations to come. We have a successful range of Angove Organic wines from a blend of South Australian regions, and currently have 172 acres of Organic vineyard spread across the Riverland and Mclaren Vale with an additional 62 acres in conversion. We have plans to begin conversion of another 74 acres in 2014. Wild Olive Shiraz joins our organic offer with a premium focus on the amazingly consistent and sustainable Mclaren Vale wine region.”

Angove Family Winemakers Wild Olive Shiraz has a RRP of $20, and is matured in small oak for 12 months prior to barrel selection and assemblage. It is a lively, aromatic and vibrant Shiraz, showing nice pepper and ripe berry aromas and flavours with a lush smooth palate.
