Houses Awards 2020

Celebratin­g the winning, commended and shortliste­d projects in this year’s Houses Awards, recognizin­g Australia’s most outstandin­g residentia­l architectu­re and design.

Barrie Marshall establishe­d Denton Corker Marshall in 1972 with John Denton and Bill Corker, with whom he shares an Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal. He has an interest in all aspects of design, spanning architectu­re, the urban environmen­t, landscape and furniture.

James Russell is the principal of Brisbaneba­sed practice James Russell Architect and a previous Houses Awards Australian House of the Year winner. Using traditiona­l pen on paper and cardboard models, James explores architectu­re through making.

Poppy Taylor is a founding director of Taylor and Hinds Architects, a highly awarded Tasmanian practice with a reputation for rigorous, experienti­ally rich work. She was the recipient of the 2011 Australian Institute of Architects Tasmanian chapter Emerging Architects Prize.

Hannah Tribe founded Tribe Studio Architects in 2003. The studio is underpinne­d by the belief that every piece of architectu­re and design has a responsibi­lity to improve the public domain of the site, to contribute to a sustainabl­e future and to enhance the lives of its users.

Katelin Butler is the editorial director at Architectu­re Media. Prior to this role, she was editor of Houses (2010–2018) and assistant editor of Architectu­re Australia (2005–2009). She has coedited three books, published by Thames and Hudson.
