Dominique Duong
Dominique’s work is characterised by a fascination with the macabre. “I’ve always been interested by the darkly strange, the not-quite-right and the downright gruesome, but also the colourful and outlandish,” she says.
1 Alice’ s Adventures in Wonder land
“My book cover entry for Pan Macmillan’s competition illustrating Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I wanted to challenge myself by experimenting with a looser, freer style than I normally work in.”
2 The Ringmaster
“This was a personal piece that I mostly made up as I went along. To me, this character seems like the ringmaster of a slightly sinister steampunk circus – a harsh mistress, but not cruel.”
3 IS cream, You Scream, We Scream for Ice Cream!
“I can’t really say what sparked this off – just that I wanted to create something with a strange, scary monster that was also weird, cute and kind of funny.”
4 Flowers of the Mind
“A portrait of my character, Nesidore. She’s a child who’s far more than they appear to be. Their brain’s way of thinking is very different to how a human thinks.”
