Concept artist and illustrator Gavin is currently finishing his animation degree. Recently, he’s been using 3D blockouts as a base for his paintings, to help him find strong compositions.
1 Final Dusk
“A background from a short film I’ve been working on for my degree. Everything has been leading up to this point. I wanted to create a feeling of danger, but with beautiful shapes influenced by Eyvind Earle.” 2 A New Beginning
“This was a personal piece done as part of an online course. It depicts a ruin that might once been part of an ancient city, deep underground.”
3 Sacred Oak
“I created this image after watching tutorials from Eytan Zana. This tree sits at the bottom of a cavern, and light pours in and illuminates the leaves. The tree is a source of ancient power.” 4 Komodo Rider
“In this piece my aim was to play with warm and cool light to form an interesting composition. It’s about a lone wanderer taking in the beautiful view with his tamed Komodo dragon.”
