The need to explore

I begin with the concept of a warrior and a serpent. The gestural flow of the snake as it reaches up to strike creates a nice composition. I could go with this straight off the bat and begin working on detailed preliminary sketches, but from experience I know there are usually better ideas and I want to explore them.
