a day in the life…

Donglu takes us through a typical day for a lead concept artist

-

It’s 8am in the morning, I walk into the office, grab my coffee and read through my emails. These can vary in nature, from confirming the current deadline of the concept art department tasks or providing paintovers for concept artists to receiving in-game screenshot from the level artists for feedback.

9:30am I kick off a meeting for a new map for the game.

10:30am Time to go through the photo references that my team have gathered, pointing out the relevant design elements to showcase.

11:30am I work on my own concept art assignments.

12pm I grab a quick lunch, check my afternoon schedule, and prepare the materials for meetings if needed.

1pm Time to lead a meeting to talk people through the production schedule and discuss how the tasks on the list impact each other.

2pm This is my daily review, where I assess the progress of my concept art team.

3pm I catch up with the project’s art director for our weekly catch-up. 4pm to 5pm I conclude the day by working on my own concept art tasks.
