Block out the char­ac­ter

I use both 3ds Max and ZBrush to start block­ing out the char­ac­ter. This stage is use­ful for both the artists and the an­i­ma­tors: it gives them a model they can use to start test­ing an­i­ma­tions with while we work on the fi­nal char­ac­ter. I use a tech­nique called re­topol­ogy, in which I build a game res­o­lu­tion char­ac­ter on top of the high-res­o­lu­tion sculpt. This is what the an­i­ma­tion team uses.
