Low resolution: posing the model

Creating a complicate­d posing rig is a skill in its own right, so to simplify the process I use the Bones toolset in 3ds Max. This enables me to quickly create a posable skeleton for moving my creature’s joints. However, this doesn’t always give the cleanest result, so I take the posed mesh into ZBrush to quickly clean up any problemati­c geometry using the Sculpting toolset.
