Monika Pałosz
On life as an intermediate artist at SIXMOREVODKA…
What kind of art do you paint?
It’s usually character or creature concept art or illustration. Together with Claudiu-Antoniu, I’m also responsible for junior artists and we help them develop their drawing and illustration skills.
How do you approach a painting assignment?
I usually have a clear idea of what I’m going to do before I start. I need to get my head around the story and what’s going on in this project, or in this particular piece of concept art or illustration, and then I draw out a few quick sketches or thumbnails. I present my favourites to my art director and after some time spent discussing my work, we settle on one, which I then clean up, making a tight drawing. Then I colour it and take it to final.
What’s been your proudest moment at the studio?
It would probably be doing my first illustration for Degenesis. Before I joined SIXMOREVODKA, that was something I dreamed of doing. It was cool to see it printed and part of the big project.
What’s it like to work here?
It’s great! I’m always amazed by how well people here get along. Everybody’s working towards the common goal, which is making the best-possible illustrations. If I feel that I’m not up to a task, or if something can be done better in a piece, then I can easily ask a colleague who excels at this particular thing, and the final result will be all the better for it.
