Steven Hughes
Steven is best known for his colourful acrylic portraits, which have appeared in numerous gallery exhibitions in California and New York. His work revels in the interplay of light and colour, and he’s especially keen on plein air painting.
1 Daughter of Themyscira
“The DC comic heroine has long been a favourite of mine. I find the depiction of quieter moments of determination or thoughtful reflection has the most impact.”
2 Eme rgence
“Part of a series exploring the juxtaposition of abstraction and realism. Floral imagery is overlaid to obscure, replace and even highlight elements of the figure.”
3 Busy , busy , busy
“In Cat’s Cradle, Kurt Vonnegut writes: ‘Busy, busy, busy, is what we Bokononists whisper whenever we think of how complicated and unpredictable the machinery of life really is.’”
4 Beyond the Wall
“The gallery wanted to see new interpretations of George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Coincidentally, a friend happened to be letting his hair grow out, so I had a model for my version of Jon Snow.”
