Alpine has recently launched the flagship ‘7-incher’ multimedia head unit in the INE-W957A priced at $1999 (the company’s 8-inch ultra-big X008AU tops out the head unit range at $2499).
The INE-W957A ‘Advanced Navi Station’, as Alpine refers to it, features a whole stream of technologies crammed into its 2-DIN 7-inch screen size.
For starters MirrorLink is on-board to mimic, or mirror, your phone’s icon system on its bright LED-back-lit WVGA touch screen. The unit is capable of playing back CD/DVD discs in their original, recordable and re-writable formats, iPod/iPhone video and music, DivX video and WMA/MP3/AAC from USB devices, plus there’s a HDMI input for connection of smartphones and other devices for further video playback capabilities. The premium navigation package features SUNA live traffic, 3D landmarks, text-to-speech directions, 4WD off-road navigation, camera alerts, an enhanced POI data base and much more.
Alpine features its clever 50/50 quick look navigation that splits the screen while other functions are being utilised (see below).
Bluetooth is of course also on board and is available for hands-free phone use as well as for music streaming from a compatible device. Sonics are provided via an in-built 50 watts 4-channel amplifier and a 24-Bit DAC while Alpine provides a 9-band parametric EQ, three 4-volts pre-outs, subwoofer control functions, AM/FM radio tuner and a whole lot more.
The INE-W957A is available via established Alpine dealers around the country.
