As director of Sussex Taps, tell us how its history has forged its path to carbonneutral certification?

Sustainability has been an important part of Sussex since the day my father founded the company. As we’ve grown, our machinery [has] evolved along with us. Our latest investment has been in our state-of-the-art facility, which houses the new LUXPVD® coating technology. This piece of technology produces zero carbon emissions, allowing us to treat its water bi-product to ensure it is free from harmful chemicals.

What is the importance of onshore production and long-term sustainability? We wouldn’t be who we are today without having overcome the challenges of the past. The decision to stay onshore when so many manufacturers took their production offshore in the wake of the GFC has become our greatest strength. It was simple: it wasn’t about the money, it was to control the quality to get the best possible product. Our products are made to last a lifetime, and so is our business vision.

What inspires you to forge ahead?

I’ve been handed down a really special gift. My father immigrated from The Netherlands and dedicated his working life to growing a successful manufacturing business. He loved Australia. He instilled limitless passion in our family for native flora, fauna and a respect for the eco-system that surrounds and sustains us. It’s not only a basic duty as a business to do the right thing, but a passion of mine to be able to make a positive impact through my business.

– “Environmental responsibility and manufacturing excellence are not mutually exclusive.” –
