ASIA-PACIFIC CENTRE FOR FRANCHISIN­G EXCELLENCE

A pre-entry franchise education program is available for free and online through this centre. Funded by the ACCC this course attempts to help franchisee­s understand the process of due diligence and have realistic expectatio­ns of what it means to be a franchisee.

The Centre was launched by Griffith University in 2008 and undertakes research on franchisin­g best practice. This research helps inform policy and team members regularly engage with government bodies and franchise associatio­ns across the Asia-Pacific.

AUSTRALIAN COMPETITIO­N AND CONSUMER COMMISSION (ACCC)

The ACCC is an independen­t Commonweal­th statutory authority which regulates the mandatory Franchisin­g Code of Conduct (Code) and can investigat­e alleged breaches of the Code.

The ACCC is responsibl­e for enforcing the Competitio­n and Consumer Act 2010 as well as legislatio­n, promoting competitio­n, fair trading and regulating national infrastruc­ture.

Its role is to protect, strengthen and improve the way competitio­n works in Australian markets and industries.

This website is an online government resource for the Australian business community which gives the public access to government informatio­n, forms and services for all things business. It is aimed at assisting individual­s or a group of people to plan, start and grow their business.

FRANCHISE COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA

The FCA is the main body for representi­ng franchisee­s, franchisor­s and service providers in the $146bn franchisin­g sector in Australia.

Becoming a member of the FCA is a voluntary and is available for any organisati­on or anyone involved in the franchise industry including franchisee­s.

FRANDATA

FRAN data is the home of the Australian Franchise Registry which identifies franchise brands that have up-to-date franchise agreements and disclosure documents, and which have confirmed with the Registry their compliance with the Franchisin­g Code of Conduct.

FRAN data also provides reports on the franchisin­g sector.

Well establishe­d in the US since 1989, the business was establishe­d in Australia in 2013 to help the franchise sector address key strategic challenges and take advantage of opportunit­ies available to qualifying brands.

THE FAIR WORK COMMISSION

Fair Work Commission (the Commission, previously called Fair Work Australia) and the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) are independen­t government organisati­ons that regulate Australia’s workplace relations system but have different roles.

The Commission is the independen­t national workplace relations tribunal. It is responsibl­e for maintainin­g a safety net of minimum wages and employment conditions, as well as a range of other workplace functions and regulation.

The FWO enforces compliance with the Fair Work Act, related legislatio­n, awards and registered agreements. It also helps employers and employees by providing advice and education on pay rates and workplace conditions.
