DESIGNER: Alex Farrington Growing up with parents involved in architecture, fashion and graphic design, it’s no surprise Alex ended up as a designer herself. “I studied fine art with music and mathematics at Deakin University, and a few years later I studied landscape architecture – the perfect combination of art, science and maths,” says Alex. “I run my own landscape architecture practice and, while it’s rewarding, I also find great satisfaction in building things with my hands. So the natural progression was to launch 3 Kings Studio 18 months ago.” From her studio, Alex creates a range of functional wall-hangings and towel racks, ideal for displaying everyday bits and pieces. “The Cirque collection was my launch product,” she says. “It’s made with timber, acoustic felt and copper rivets. Acoustic felt is a beautiful material – its specifications are first class and the colour range is extensive.” Alex’s inspiration came from a need for a spot for keys, mail and other items that were adding to benchtop clutter. “It now houses all the daily paraphernalia, and is the notice board with reminders and invitations pinned to it,” says Alex. “I love that it’s useful and beautiful, both when empty and when laden with family life.” $239, 3kingsstudio.com.au.
