‘Cesta’ table lamp by Miguel Milá

-

The form: A table lamp with an egg-shaped opal glass shade within a solid cherry wood structure. What makes it special: Created nearly six decades ago by Spanish designer Miguel Milá, the ‘Cesta’ and its little sister ‘Cestita’ have become icons of 20th-century Spanish design. The beautifully expressive timber frame of Cesta is made of fine strips of cherry wood, bent to create a cradle-like structure for the opal glass shade. It stands 57cm high with timber handle upright, while the Cestita is 36cm. The original design always featured a handle, making it perfect for a makeover into a portable, batterypowered light. In 2017 the ‘Cestita Batería’ was created with the same delicate timber structure, but with a USB-rechargeable battery-powered LED light source. On full power the unit lasts five hours, 15 hours on mid power and an impressive 30 hours on low. Recharge time is eight hours. Expect to pay: From $1128.15 for Cesta 330mm diameter mains-powered version, $507.15 for Cestita 220mm diameter version with opal glass shade or $740.30 for Cestita Batería USB-rechargeable version with 220mm diameter glass shade.
