Inside Out (Australia)

New beginnings…

-

January might just be my favourite month. The December rush is over and we all have permission to completely relax. You can almost hear the huge collective exhalation of breath up and down the country. It’s also the season of optimism and good intentions. We take stock of our lives, we join the gym and we make grand plans for the year ahead. If this includes a refresh, a re-invention or a renovation of your home, you’re in the right place. This month we’re all about making the most of what you have. Our cover home is a clever little self-contained house that its owner built in her garden, for extra income or when guests come to stay. You can find it on page 46. Keep turning for a small apartment that’s home to a family of four, but beautifully curated so it feels much larger. Our style editor Jono pulled together his top tips on small-space style, complete with the flexible furniture that will make the room really work. Find the story on page 38. And if all you can manage this month is a pantry clean out, our market editor Natalie has you covered with her round-up of stylish and functional storage buys, on page 116. Talk about sparking joy!

We’re all living outdoors this month, so we’ve made sure to include plenty of garden inspiration. Is your ultimate outdoor room fully kitted out with all the comforts of indoors, or is it something more simple? Turn to page 134 for four completely different options that will have you dreaming and designing, even if the doing comes a little later.

I’m setting off on my own new adventure, so you’ll see a fresh face here from next month. I’ve loved my time with team Inside Out and I’m so grateful for their, and your, support. I hope you enjoy this issue, and wish you a wonderful 2019.
