“Apart from the brickwork, another unexpected outcome of the renovation is our striking yet simple staircase. The original one was a chunky design with vertical American-oak battens, which came in over budget. We had to come up with a more cost-effective option. It was a team effort for everyone involved to get the beautiful staircase we have now. I actually like it a lot more than the original, so it was for the better.”

OUTDOOR AREA Caitlin designed the garden with help from her brother Dane, of Parker Landscape Construction. They used spotted gum for the deck and Endicott stone pavers from Eco Outdoor elsewhere. Malibu chairs from Mimosa Outdoors take in the potted magnolia, crassula and Casuarina ‘Cousin It’. In the beds are kalanchoe and nandina, with bamboo at the back fence.
