Inside Sport - - COMEBACKS -

Congratulations to Nick Kyrgios on his outstanding achievement at Wimbledon in reaching the men’s quarter-finals. For him to fight back from two sets to love down and defeat Richard Gasquet took great courage and resolve; then to defeat Rafael Nadal showed a maturity beyond his years.

With a power game resembling the great Pete Sampras’, ¡superb athleticism for a man of his size, and a hunger to succeed, Kyrgios has all the right ingredients to make it to the top.

But what also impressed me was the humility that he displayed after defeating both Nadal and Gasquet and the way he accepted his defeat against Milos Raonic.

Let’s hope Kyrgios can maintain his focus and not get distracted by all the attention and adulation that’s coming his way. If he can, then he has the world at his feet.

If Bernard Tomic could develop the same work ethic and focus on his tennis, we’d have even more reason to be optimistic about Grand Slam success in the future.
