Through­out the pre-sea­son much of world foot­ball’s fo­cus was on the rev­o­lu­tion of Pep Guardi­ola (right) and the sky-blue half of Manch­ester. The Spa­niard had Europe in the palm of his hand when at the helm at Barcelona, but strug­gled against those other giants from his home­land a“er he le“ for Mu­nich. Three sea­sons brought much do­mes­tic joy, but the hi­er­ar­chy at Ger­many’s big­gest club ul­ti­mately de­manded con­ti­nen­tal suc­cess, which never even­tu­ated. Now in Manch­ester, at a club with lim­it­less funds and am­bi­tions of be­com­ing one of Europe’s heavy­weights, Guardi­ola will be aim­ing to turn Ser­gio Aguero, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne into a part­ner­ship dom­i­nant enough for him to re­peat his suc­cess at Barcelona.Œ
