Inside Sport - - W-League Preview -

Back-to-back-to-back championship winners, Melbourne City has never known a season without silverware, winning an impressive three championships and a premiership in their three seasons in the competition.

Despite the loss of midfield architect Jess Fishlock, the side gained the services of Matilda Tameka Butt and the return of Elise Kellond-Knight, who will both be comfortable with the club’s possession style of football. In a side loaded with big-name players, the defence is almost a replica of the Seattle Reign’s, which was the second best in the NWSL last season – Matildas Lydia Williams and Steph Catley are joined by internationals Lauren Barnes and Theresa Nielsen.

A side which struggled to score at times last season has signed the pacey American Jasmine Spencer, and will again be looking to Kyah Simon and a guest appearance of England’s Jodie Taylor to supply more. Every side will bring their best against City, but they’ll be difficult to break down, and it should lay the foundation for more successs.
