Discover travel and honeymoon tips from one recently married couple.

Following their gorgeous destination wedding showcasing stunning views of the rolling hills in Malibu, California, Jewelles (née Cosculluela) and Konstantin Obuhov traveled to Mexico for a luxurious honeymoon south of the border that blended relaxation and romance with sightseeing and adventure.

Destination: Los Cabos

With plans to visit South Africa for a longer honeymoon when time permits, Jewelles and Konstantin first celebrated their newly married status on a romantic trip to Mexico. “We wanted to take a very private, quiet mini-moon to decompress from all the wedding chaos,” confirms Jewelles. As neither had ever been to Cabo and it’s just a short flight from Los Angeles, they selected the resort city for their initial stop.

Five days and four nights at Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort allowed the couple to focus on complete relaxation. The stunning five-star property situated along the coastline of Los Cabos showcases eight pools, all offering plush amenities delivered by butlers, a rejuvenating spa with services inspired by ancient healers, and exceptional dining experiences. “It was romantic, clean, private, and luxurious,” affirms Jewelles.

With so much available from the comfort of their villa complete with an infinity-edge pool overlooking the Sea of Cortez, the honeymooners spent most of their time at the resort. “We didn’t explore much, as we wanted to use this time to relax,” explains Jewelles. In addition to room service, they savored delectable dishes at each restaurant – particularly loving Arbol, which offers coastal Asian-influenced cuisine and a vast raw bar. After months of planning a wedding, the newlyweds also reveled in being pampered by their Villa Host, who provided an unparalleled experience to ensure a perfect stay.

HIGHLIGHTS

Feeling like VIPs. “From the 24-hour room service, to the poolside servers, and the butlers who made sure every need was met, the service was incredible!”

Sailing to Playa del Amor. “Enjoying a private sail to Lover’s Beach was the perfect activity for our honeymoon.”

Resting & relaxing. “There was no pressure to do anything but sunbathe and relax – we loved having time to truly take a break from it all.”

Destination: Mexico City

After spending the first part of their mini-moon relaxing by the beach, Jewelles and Konstantin desired a completely different experience before heading back to New York City. “We had spent the last five days in Cabo, and we were ready for a change of scenery,” says Jewelles. Konstantin confirms: “We wanted a little action!” Thus, they took a quick flight to spend three days and two nights at Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City. Located nearby the beautiful Bosque de Chapultepec park, the exquisite property offers travelers an urban oasis, which enticed Jewelles and Konstantin as they wanted to pair honeymoon bliss with city life for their final destination.

“We did a lot of eating, gallery hopping, and sightseeing,” shares Jewelles of their cultural exploration. As soon as they stepped out of the hacienda-style hotel set around a garden courtyard filled with tropical fruit trees, the newlyweds were whisked into the vibrancy of the city along the boulevard of Paseo de la Reforma, which houses the Ángel de la Independencia monument. Jewelles and Konstantin traversed the city, visiting diverse areas of town, including the trendy Polanco neighborhood where they enjoyed dinner at La Única. With over 200 art galleries and museums, as well as historic sites including Metropolitan Cathedral – the oldest cathedral in Latin America – Mexico’s capital city provided the action and culture the couple hoped to experience during their stay.

Though their original South African honeymoon was postponed due to the impacts of the pandemic, Jewelles and Konstantin were thrilled to spend their first week as husband and wife on a mini-moon in Cabo and Mexico City. “We loved every minute of it!” smiles Jewelles.

HIGHLIGHTS

Exploring various neighborhoods. “We experienced so many parts of the city – areas with ancient ruins and colonial architecture to more modern buildings.”

Tasting authentic local cuisine. “Whether you try the street food or visit fine-dining establishments, all of the food was absolutely delicious!”

Experiencing the culture. “Mexico City is known for its multi-layered history and culture, from the cuisine and architecture to the music and art. We loved it!”
