Couple inspires South Africa to LOVE HARD

How #KFCWedding couple motivated millions to believe in true love

Most people believe that true love comes once in life. Others simply believe that there is nothing called true love.

Whatever your perceptions are, South Africans went ‘gaga’ over a love story that will one day earn an Oscars after it is scripted for the big screen.

A couple got engaged at a KFC in South Africa, and we’ve never believed in true love more than we do right now.

Hector Mkansi and Nonhlanhla Soldaat got married in 2012, but because they could only afford a modest wedding back then, they’d always dreamt of having a bigger celebration if they could. So, in November last year, Hector 37, proposed to 28-year-old Nonhlanhla again, this time at her favourite restaurant – yup, a KFC. A girl after our own hearts.

Hector, a pastor, even got the staff involved by getting them to hide the engagement ring in her meal. Hector told CNN: “The team at the restaurant was surprised at the request but they were helpful in creating the big moment. We received our meals and when she looked inside, she found the ring and that's when I went down on my knee.”

After a video of the proposal went viral (sadly, because some miseries slammed Hector for proposing in a fast-food restaurant).

That was the turning point. While the Twitter trolls were busy cyber bullying, South Africans from all walks of life, races and tribes, united to plan the wedding. loads of people came forward and said they wanted to contribute to the wedding. Even some of KFC’s biggest competitors joined in the pledging frenzy using thee #KFCWedding hashtag on social media.

KFC South Africa provided a wedding planner, Airlines Kulula and Mango offered to fly the couple to their honeymoon, and Uber, Lexus, and Audi all offered their services as far as transport goes.

Before they knew it, the couple were inundated with more offers – this time from people wanting to foot the bill for jewellery, furniture and more.

While the Twitter trolls were busy cyber bullying, South Africans from all walks of life, races and tribes, united to plan the wedding.

In a year that South Africa was united by the Rugby World Cup victorious Springboks and Zozini Tunzi’s Miss Universe crowning, this virtually unknown managed to unite the nation. And the only thing they had was love.

Never in the history of South Africa had love been celebrated that much. It healed millions of broken hearts.

The couple tied the knot on 31 December in a ceremony they’d always dreamt of.

The wedding was held at the Thaba Eco Hotel on the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve in Johannesburg, and Soldaat's gown was a custom-made design by Bride & Co., according to The Star

“Our dream has come true, we never in a million years thought something like this would happen to us.”

He added: “Both of us have to ask each other if this is really happening from time to time.

We couldn't be more grateful to God and every single person that has shared in our little love story.”

No, I’m not crying… YOU ARE.
