Joondalup Times - - NEWS -

A MAN who allegedly committed obscene acts in front of young teenage girls in Beldon last week has been remanded in custody and is being assessed for suitability for home detention bail conditions.

The 47-year-old man faced Joondalup Magistrates Court last Friday accused of obscene acts in public and two counts of indecent dealing with a child over 13 but under 16.

The Joondalup man has been in custody since his arrest on Monday, August 21, and applied for bail through his duty lawyer.

Prosecutor Jasmine Hawks opposed bail because police were concerned the man had suddenly escalated to the alleged offences having had no previous record.

She said police were still interviewing nine female youths.

The court heard he allegedly committed an obscene act in sight of a 16-year-old girl while sitting in his car in the Coles supermarket carpark in Beldon about 8.15am on August 21.

About 8.20am, it is alleged he was near Belridge Senior High School when he committed an obscene act with a window down in his car in front of a group of girls, the youngest believed to be 13.

After leaving the school area, he is accused of pulling his car up next to a 14-year-old, who could see he was not wearing any pants.

He allegedly committed an obscene act in front of her while in his car.

The accused was in tears by the end of the hearing.

He was not required to plea and will reappear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday after his suitability for home detention has been assessed.
