A MAN al­legedly at­tempted to drive a car against the flow of traf­fic dur­ing a pur­suit on the Mitchell Free­way in Padbury but crashed into a po­lice car last month. Of­fi­cers first spot­ted the al­legedly stolen ve­hi­cle, car­ry­ing four peo­ple, driv­ing south on Marmion Av­enue in Ocean Reef about 10.40pm on March 17. The driver al­legedly drove away at speed when po­lice at­tempted to stop the car. Of­fi­cers fol­lowed the car through mul­ti­ple streets be­fore it en­tered the free­way north­bound via Hep­burn Av­enue. The driver al­legedly at­tempted to turn the car around on the free­way but crashed into the train bar­rier and a po­lice car. The four oc­cu­pants tried to flee but were de­tained by po­lice. Of­fi­cers charged a 25-year-old South Lake man with eight of­fences, in­clud­ing two counts of as­sault with in­tent to pre­vent ar­rest and reck­less driv­ing to es­cape po­lice.
