Wolves continue streak

Joondalup Times - - WAFL -

WARWICK Stadium hosted the most anticipated match of the State Basketball League season to date with the Stirling Senators and Joondalup Wolves putting their undefeated records on the line against one another on Saturday.

And it was the Wolves whose record remained unblemished with a 72-56 victory.

Joondalup then thrashed the South West Slammers on Sunday 9748 at HBF Arena to complete a perfect 5-0 start to the season.

The first quarter against the Senators especially did not disappoint with both teams combining for 58 points at 29 apiece.

But the Wolfpack pulled away to lead by eight at half-time, by 17 at three quarter-time and went on to win by 18.

Again the most impressive aspect of the Joondalup performance was its number of contributors, led by Jalen Billups who delivered 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Brian Sullivan also had 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists including hitting 4/7 from beyond the arc.

There were plenty more Wolves players delivering impressive performances, with Rob Huntington contributing 15 points and six rebounds, Trian Iliadis 13 points, Seb Salinas 11 points and four assists, and Damian Matacz 10 points and six boards.

On Sunday, 18-yearold big man Ben Gaspar grabbed his opportunities for the Wolfpack, topscoring with 16 points and eight rebounds on 5-5 shooting from the field and 6-8 from the freethrow line.

In the women’s league, Joondalup took its second win for the season with a 72-56 win over Stirling, but lost to the previously winless Slammers 82-69.

The Lady Wolfpack is seventh on the table.
