Wolves can’t Bucc the trend of Geraldton wins
THERE was plenty of intrigue heading into the SBL clash between Joondalup and the Buccaneers in Geraldton, with the Wolves yet to be defeated and the hosts having not lost since their opening game.
Add in the fact the two teams battled in the semi-finals last year and a terrific contest was always on the cards.
It certainly didn’t disappoint on Saturday night, with the Buccs holding on for a 10096 win to inflict the visitors’ first loss of the season on their way to a fifth straight victory.
The loss was not enough to dislodge Joondalup from top spot, however.
Jalen Billups top-scored for the Wolfpack with 27 points and five rebounds, with Brian Sullivan contributing 17 points and three assists.
Damian Matacz added 12 points and five rebounds for the Wolves and Jordan Wellsteed scored 10 points.
Geraldton point guard Gokul Natesan finished with 36 points and six assists on shooting 7-15 from the field, 38 from deep and a remarkable 19-20 from the foul line as he continued to take the ball to the rim. Joondalup faces 11thplaced Cockburn at HBF Arena on Friday night.
