In­dige­nous cul­tures and tra­di­tions cel­e­brated at schools.

SAM­PLING tucker and mak­ing damper were some of the ac­tiv­i­ties at Gir­rawheen Se­nior High School’s Naidoc cel­e­bra­tions.

The school hosted an early Naidoc event on June 26, ahead of the school hol­i­days, with WA Po­lice of­fi­cers and cars wrapped in Abo­rig­i­nal de­sign at­tend­ing as well.

Deputy Po­lice Com­mis­sioner Stephen Brown, who is a school board mem­ber and for­mer stu­dent, was the guest speaker.

Ac­tiv­i­ties in­cluded story telling with Linda Jean, damper mak­ing with Ny­oon­gar Out­reach Ser­vices and sam­pling bush tucker food in the can­teen.

Dur­ing the af­ter­noon, there was a foot­ball game played by stu­dents from the Girls Academy, Clon­tarf and all other Abo­rig­i­nal stu­dents.
