ONE of the four men charged in relation to the torture and killing of two kangaroos is set to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court this week.

Luke Kevin Dempster, of Wanneroo, is due in court this Friday after one of his co-accused Ricky Ian Swan pleaded guilty last week.

Swan (28), of Aveley, who was charged with kangaroo cruelty and possessing a knife to harm an animal, was remanded for sentencing on November 28.

Mr Dempster and Swan first appeared in court last month on the same day as co-accused Dylan Leslie Griffin (22), of Bullsbrook, and Ben Jaydon Malpuss (26) after police found disturbing mobile phone footage of the May and June attacks.

Mr Griffin, who police allege shot one of the kangaroos in the eye with a firearm, reappeared in court on Monday last week and was remanded until November 12 to seek legal advice.

It was during evidence when considering Mr Griffin’s case last month that the court heard police prosecutor claims that he and his co-charged were linked to an outlaw motorcycle club. The magistrate said membership of such a club on its own was “not an issue”.

Mr Malpuss, of Woodvale, is set to reappear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on November 5 after being granted bail on a $10,000 surety last month.
