Sun sets on Inglis empire
JOONDALUP and University are evenly poised after a tight battle on the first day of WACA first-grade pennant action at Iluka Sports Complex.
Although the Centurions found themselves in trouble early on Saturday at 2-22, Clinton Hinchliffe and Josh Inglis breathed life into the innings, producing 68 runs in a terrific third-wicket partnership.
The loss of Hinchliffe at
3-90 did nothing to slow Inglis down as he found a new partner in captain Jaron Morgan, where the pair continued to assault University’s bowlers.
Inglis and Morgan bashed their way to a 75run fourth-wicket stand to boost the total to 165 before Morgan departed for 45.
At 4-165, Inglis found himself anchoring the middle overs as University’s bowlers started to get on top.
A 35-run partnership between Inglis and Tim Zsilinkszy saw the score zoom to 200 before Bailey Richards took matters into his own hands.
Richards tore his way through the tail, taking four of the final six wickets, as Joondalup lost those final six wickets in the space of
Richards ended the innings with 5-33, while Inglis finished the day with an amazing knock of 107, scoring more than half of Joondalup’s total as the Centurions were bowled out for 212.
Although University lost Sean Stuart early at 1-1, Will Bosisto and Christopher Sabburg regrouped, pushing the total to 1-38 before the end of the day’s play.
