New roads take shape
MAIN Roads has released a concept plan for the $65 million Wanneroo Road-Ocean Reef Road interchange as contractors prepare to start work on the $50 million Joondalup Drive flyover.
It expects to award a contract for the southern project in late 2018, which will include building a road bridge, as well as on and off ramps with traffic signals.
Main Roads developed the concept design after considering options to meet current and future traffic needs, but said the final configuration would be determined during the detailed design stage after it awarded the contract.
Changes to surrounding streets will include removing right-turns out of Villanova Street into Wanneroo Road.
Plans include installing a U-turn on Wanneroo Road north of Villanova and south of East Road to help southbound motorists.
Vehicles will still be allowed to turn right from Wanneroo Road into Villanova Street and left-turns in and out of the junction.
According to Main Roads, CPB Contractors will start building the interchange at Joondalup Drive in November. It will install barriers on Wanneroo Road, Joondalup Drive and the northern side of the Burns Beach Road roundabout early next month.
Daytime works planned until February will include earthworks, drainage and paving. They will require the use of excavators, loaders, rollers, dump trucks, graders, bob cats, water carts and light vehicles. Night works, starting this week, will include locating underground services and barrier installation.
The Wanneroo RoadJoondalup Drive interchange project is expected to be finished in early 2020.
